South Padre Island - April 2010 - Scrapbook Pages

Below are the pages that I created for our month in South Padre Island, Texas, in April of this year.  As many of you will remember, it was a battle between us and the RV to see who would win the "leak" battle.  (Just a FYI, WE won....  No more leaks...  (knock on wood)).

It was a great month where we relaxed on the beach and got accustomed to RV living.  I will say that we had more lumps on our heads as we got used to the RV, its amazing how many low hanging things there are to knock you in the head.

Apr 3 2010 - Our Trip- Journaling: April 3 arrive.  April 29-30 Ted's visit.  May 1 Depart

Apr 3 2010 - Camp More Work Less- Journaling: We arrived on South Padre Island on April 3.  We would spend the next 4 weeks relaxing on the beach & kiteboarding.

Apr 3 2010 - Grapefruit- Journaling: South Padre Island, Texas.  We discovered the farmer's market on Saturday mornings.  Our favorite purchase was a huge bag of grapefruit for only $5.  We would squeeze them for the most delicious juice.

Side trip to Skagway

We are taking the ferry this morning from Haines over to Skagway. We will be there for the next two nights before coming back to Haines. We are leaving the trailer here in Haines and staying in a B&B there.

We are definitely taking the ferry down in Nov as we are already seeing snow along our route out. We have the first winter storm watch posted for the passes near us on Thurs & Fri.

January 2010 Scrapbook Pages

As many of you know, while Matt is out hunting eagles (with his camera of course), I have been spending the days at the RV scrapbooking.  I've been trying to figure out how to share my paper layouts with everyone for quite some time and finally with Matt's very patient help, have figured out how to photograph them so that I can share them online.  As I get them all photographed and uploaded online, I'll be sharing them here with you.

Remember that you can always click on one to see it larger.

The first two pages of the 2010 trip book are of our "Home Away from Home", our wonderful RV.
Jan 3, 2010 - Home Away From Home - Journaling:  Matt left Colorado to beat bad weather on Jan 1.  He was on his way to Colfax, CA to pick up the fifth wheel.  After months of searching for this exact model, we finally found it.  he would spend 32 hours to drive 2,274 miles round trip.  He would have to tow through snow & mountains -  Papers:  Mirabelle by The Paper Studio - Sketch by: N/A - Embellishments: Stickers, embroidery floss, brads, ink,  - Font:  AR Christy- Cricut Expression w/ SCAL

The next page "Gotta Scrap" is from later in January when Laura visited for a scrapbooking weekend.  We were originally supposed to go to a retreat but it was cancelled at the last minute.  We decided to utilize our mountain condo for the weekend with a couple of friends instead.  Lets just say that there was scrapbooking stuff everywhere...  It was a great weekend.

Jan 20, 2010 - Gotta Scrap - Journaling:  Laura flew into Denver on Jan 20 for a scrapping weekend.  We were joined by Monica & Britney at the condo -  Papers:  Complete Boy by My Minds Eye - Sketch by: ??? - Embellishments: flowers, stickers, ribbon, transparency frame, ink, border punch  - Font:  N/A - Cricut Expression, Plantin Schoolbook

New Photos - Utah & Alaska

I wanted to share a couple of photos from earlier in our trip.

The first photo is from our visit to Zion National Park in Utah.  We visited there from May 4 to May 10 and really enjoyed hiking all around the beautiful park.  This photo is from the Court of the Patriarchs which is located just inside the southern entrance to the park.  Matt took this at sunrise.

This next photo was taken in Seward, Alaska from our visit back in August.  This photo was taken by Matt at sunset just a little ways down the beach from our campsite.  It is of some old piers that were destroyed during the 1964 earthquake that devastated the town of Seward.

Matt took this last photo while we were in Valdez, Alaska just last month.  This adorable harbor seal (nicknamed "Sea Sausages" by the locals) was lounging on some glacial ice that had recently calved from the Columbia Glacier.  We had taken a cruise out of Valdez and over to this huge glacier that was surrounded by huge fields of icebergs (some were larger than our boat).

I think that catches me up on past photos.  I do another one in a day or so of some new eagle photos from here in Haines.

Haines - Brown Bears in Action

We survived the storm and man did it ever rain and blow.  The trailer rocked constantly from the 50+ mph wind gusts.  We went for a drive yesterday and every gully had water streaming from it and the rain was blowing sideways.  Today has been nice (by Alaska standards) so we resumed our normal schedules of Matt photographing and me walking around town and scrapbooking.  I counted 4 eagles flying over me in a short 30 minute walk this morning.

As I promised on Monday, I wanted to share some of Matt's photos of the brown bears on the Chilkoot River here in Haines.  He has been thoroughly entertained by two sets of mothers and cubs (1 with 2 cubs and 1 with 3 cubs).

This young spring cub did not like to get wet as he holds his salmon above the cold waters of Chilkoot River, Alaska.
